Liverpool’s German midfielder Emre Can has lavished praise on his new team-mate Mo Salah, the Egyptian wing-forward who’s been nothing short of incredible this season.

Salah has 17 goals in all competitions, 12 of which have come in the Premier League, two more than any other striker – all the more impressive considering he doesn’t take penalties or free-kicks and actually starts from the right.

In November, Salah ramped up his already impressive start with eight goals in six matches – the kind of figures Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo rack up.

Emre Can likely to leave Liverpool at the end of this season on a Bosman.

Can told the Echo: “You can see that everyone is a little bit scared of him as it is unbelievable how quick he is.

“He has the confidence now. He has a lot of goals and everyone knows he can always score. Against Stoke, it was the same as he came on and showed his confidence.

“He had one chance and the volley was great after an unbelievable assist from Sadio (Mane). It’s good for us and very good for him. I hope it goes on.

“It’s just crazy. I don’t know how he does it. I’d watched him play before he signed for Liverpool but I didn’t know he was as good as this,” he added.

“He has surprised a lot of people to be honest. Everyone is happy to have him here. He’s helping the team a lot.

“He is a very good guy off the pitch which is important and on the pitch he always plays good and scores goals.”

We just hope Salah maintains his current form. Liverpool also have Sadio Mane, Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge who can play in the front-three, so we’re by no means a one-man team – but the 25-year-old is definitely the jewell in the crown right now.

He’s playing so well that we’re almost convinced we’ll endure attention from Real Madrid and Barcelona next summer, but for now, we don’t need to worry about that.

Like Coutinho, he’s contracted to us for years.
