Last season, Harry Wilson scored 28 goals for Liverpool Under-23 in Premier League 2, and already this term he’s notched 11 – but despite his 39 strikes from the wing – he doesn’t get a sniff of an opportunity in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team.
This is perhaps understandable considering the jaw-dropping talent currently at Klopp’s disposal.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Dom Solanke and Daniel Sturridge are also not starters because of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Coutinho ahead of them in the pecking order.
But be this as it may, the Welsh international still deserves to be playing senior football as he’s far too good for the level he’s currently destroying on a weekly basis!
U23 manager Neil Critchley has said Liverpool are considering allowing Wilson a temporary exit.
“I think the situation will be reviewed in the next couple of weeks when the transfer window opens in January, ” Critchley told the Echo.
“Clubs have got to want him first and foremost, before he decides or we decide if it’s right for him to go on loan. And then there’s circumstances around the first team, in terms of injuries etc and the manager (Jurgen Klopp) has to have his say in that as well.
“So there are a lot of variables, but I’m sure in the next few weeks it will become a lot clearer.”
Wilson did endure a loan spell at Crewe in 2015, but he was perhaps not physically ready for senior football then.
He certainly is now and we can imagine there’d be plenty of Championship suitors vying for his signature.
A six month move would absolutely have our blessing.
