Technological advancements in sports betting keep getting better by the day. Nowadays, some sites even offer you the chance to use bitcoin for your online gambling needs. With the way the transfer winds are blowing, it sounds as though Ligue 1 star Jean Michael Seri may be the next big name to push for a move to England. Most betting sites suggest that Liverpool and Manchester City are among the top-tier sides interested in Seri’s services should he become available.
According to the Daily Mail, Seri has given his team, Nice, the green light to seek a transfer to England once the window opens in January. Seri is reportedly “excited” to potentially ply his craft for one of the world’s best managers, and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp figures to be at the top of the list.
Seri drew major interest from both Barcelona and Arsenal over the summer, but Nice refused to sell. The French club reportedly even rejected an offer of £35.2 million from Barca over the summer.
Seri was reportedly ready to move on from France over the summer, and he was irked by Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere’s refusal to listen to overtures from bigger clubs. Seri missed the beginning of the season due to injury, but he has since fully recovered. Both Liverpool and City have reportedly sent scouts to France in order to keep tabs on the talented midfielder.
Seri’s contract with Nice expires in the summer of 2019, but if he gets his way he will have moved on well before then. Paris Saint-Germain are another club reportedly interested in Seri, but the player seems interested in leaving France altogether.
While the Reds will be eager to get Naby Keita from the likes of RB Leipzig next summer, LFC could certainly use reinforcements in the defensive midfield until Keita arrives. Defensive woes continued to hamper LFC’s early season efforts, and Klopp’s side is now set to be without the likes of Joel Matip for the next few weeks.
The addition of Seri would give Klopp a defensive-minded midfielder to pair with the likes of Emre Can, Jordan Henderson or Gini Wijnaldum at the back of the midfield. Seri would also serve as an insurance policy if Emre Can were to leave Merseyside at the end of the season, as has been rumoured already. Can has been linked with both Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and City if he were to leave when his contract expires next summer.
Another spot would open up in midfield if Philippe Coutinho were to leave, as well. LFC’s failure to land Seri last summer resulted in the subsequent successful bid for Keita, but nabbing both players would be a dream scenario for Klopp if some of his current midfielders find new homes.
While primarily known for his defensive prowess, Seri has been an influential playmaker for Nice, as well. There have been only four players in Ligue 1 with 10 or more appearances this season to average more than Seri’s 2.6 key passes per 90 minutes. There are also no players in Klopp’s current squad that create more chances on a per-game basis than Seri. Roberto Firmino (2.1) is closest.
