Barcelona launch new Philippe Coutinho plan… involving reduced transfer fee

Barcelona are set to take a new route when their long-running pursuit of Philippe Coutinho continues during the January transfer window.

Liverpool are well-rehearsed in their battle to keep the Brazilian, having fought hard to resist three bids in the summer and retain his services for the current season.

The Reds have since been warned of Barcelona’s plans to return for the No.10 following the turn of the year, although owners Fenway Sports Group have displayed no signs of shifting from their insistence Coutinho will not be sold this campaign.

In an attempt to secure a January deal, the Catalan giants are planning on offering a reduced transfer fee along with significantly higher add-ons, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

Allowing Coutinho to leave midway through the season would be foolish on Liverpool’s part, with the club facing a tight battle for a top four finish in the Premier League and a realistic chance to progress beyond the knockout stages in the Champions League.

Standout performances from the 25-year-old in recent weeks have served as a timely reminder of the world class ability Jurgen Klopp can’t afford to lose his grip on just yet.

With Liverpool seemingly unable to bring in Naby Keita earlier than expected, keeping Coutinho at least until the summer is a must.
