Juventus CEO drops honest Emre Can admission following £4.5m promise

Juventus continue to make their avid interest in Emre Can no secret as they prepare to pounce on his stalling contract talks at Liverpool.

There are fears on Merseyside the German could leave on a free next next summer, with Can now in the final year of his current contract.

Italian giants Juventus have been long-term admirers of the midfielder and are seemingly spearheading the list of potential suitors.

Club chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has admitted that Can is being targeted, not only by Juventus but by a number of high-profile sides.

“Emre Can is a name doing the rounds because his contract is running down,” he told Mediaset Premium, as translated by the Liverpool Echo.

“I won’t deny he is a player we too have monitored and many important clubs will try to close a deal over the next few weeks.”

“We are tracking the situation, nothing more.”

It was recently reported that Juventus has promised Can a spot in their starting lineup as well as a salary of £4.5million in an attempt to lure him to Turin.

Can has endured a mixed opening to the season, teasing signs of the commanding form he displayed towards the end of the season but struggling to find any consistency.

The 23-year-old has been ineffective alongside skipper Jordan Henderson, much to the frustration of fans who once viewed the two as an ideal midfield pairing to move forward with.

Unproductive contract talks date back to the beginning of the year, with wage disputes and Liverpool’s refusal to add Can’s desired release clause serving as the basis of the failure to agree a deal.

The sooner his future is decided, the better for everyone involved.
