John Terry: Chelsea were right to sell Mo Salah

John Terry thinks Chelsea were entitled to offload Mo Salah, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku, despite the three shining for Liverpool, City and United respectively this term.

The two best players in the country this term have been De Bruyne and Salah, both of who were judged ‘not good enough’ by Jose Mourinho when the Portuguese was in charge of Chelsea.

Terry was the Chelsea captain when all three were signed for Chelsea and then sold, but the centre-back reckons the decisions, at the time, were the correct one.

“Not really, because at the time they didn’t make our team stronger,” Terry told Sky Sports, cited by GiveMeSport, when asked if the Blues made a mistake.

“Let’s not forget we were one of the best teams probably the Premier League has ever seen, in them early days when they arrived.

“So they was coming into one of the best sides. When they come in, can they make a big enough impact to sustain and keep their place? No, it’s very difficult to do.”

Terry has a point in that Chelsea were still successful between 2014 and 2016, but without question could do with the three now…

It says a lot about Chelsea’s short-term approach to managers and players, though.

Thankfully, Liverpool now have the Premier League’s current top scorer starting on our right flank, while the Blues rotate between Willian and Pedro – two players not in Salah’s league right now.

The Egyptian has 14 goals domestically and six in Europe, making him the first Liverpool star to reach 20 before Christmas since 1986.

Incredible.
