Andrew Robertson has praised his teammates for the character they displayed to fight back after their second-half capitulation against Arsenal.
Liverpool were guilty of their own downfall as a series of lapses in concentration allowed the hosts to score three goals in under five minutes and overturn a two-goal deficit.
The Reds were a sorry sight having dominated the first half and teased signs of exposing Arsenal to criticism for another lacklustre display against a top six rival.
Whilst insisting that the collapse cannot be repeated, Robertson also reiterated Liverpool’s fierce attacking power.
“We’ve been scoring goals for fun, really, away from home and not many teams come here and score three goals and don’t go away with three points,” Robertson told Liverpoolfc.com.
“Unfortunately that’s happened to us and we have to look at it and see where the mistakes happened and see where we can fix it because it can’t happen again. Once we’re 2-0 up, especially against these quality teams, we’ve got to see out the games.”
“When you go 3-2 down, their fans are right behind them and they’ve got an extra lift and you think this is just going to see out as an Arsenal win, but after that we got the ball down again and we started creating chances and then we got our goal and it was well deserved.”
“I don’t think anyone can say Arsenal deserved to win the game, we should’ve won the game, but credit to the lads, credit to Bobby for getting the goal, a bit scrappy as it is but we’ll take it and then at 3-3 we probably had a couple of chances after that to maybe even nick it.”
Friday’s goal-fest served as yet another reminder of Liverpool’s defensive concerns, but also the unstoppable nature of the attacking force Jurgen Klopp has constructed.
Even at a stage of the game where the Reds had lost their shape and their heads, they remained a threat going forward that Arsenal could find no way of containing.
Roberto Firmino was worth his equaliser having maintained his form as the unrelenting nuisance at the tip of his team’s attacking setup.
The Brazilian and the remainder of Liverpool’s ‘Fab Four’ conjured the opportunities to nick the win and have good reason to bemoan dropped points.
