Klopp: Liverpool duo have ‘no chance’ of playing next two games

Liverpool have been handed an early but albeit expected injury setback as they seek to enter 2018 on a positive note.

The Reds face two games in three days either side of New Year’s Eve, first hosting Leicester City before beginning the year with a trip to face Burnley.

Jurgen Klopp will be without skipper Jordan Henderson and left-back Alberto Moreno for both games, with the pair still recovering from injuries picked up over the past month.

“Length of time [on their returns], actually I have no idea to be honest – but it won’t be tomorrow. Both are out for the next two games for sure,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com.

“On December 30 and January 1, they have no chance, then we have to see again.”

Moreno has been sidelined since injuring his ankle in the 7-0 win over Spartak Moscow on December 6, whilst Henderson is a more recent absentee having suffered a hamstring problem during last Friday’s 3-3 draw with Arsenal.

Losing the pair is an unhelpful blow to Klopp’s plans to rotate his squad throughout the winter period, with the German keen to preserve the fitness of his players ahead of a tough battle for a top four finish.

A lengthy spell out of action comes as a cruel setback to Moreno in particular after the Spaniard’s drastic resurgence during the early stages of the season.

That said, there have been few signs of struggling without the duo thanks to Liverpool’s goal-scoring form and a string of impressive performances from Andrew Robertson at left-back.

Let’s hope it’s not too long before both are back involved. The more options, the better.
