Danny Murphy’s opinion on Keita & Firmino is Complete Garbage

Danny Murphy was a good player for Liverpool and we’ve always liked him, but he doesn’t half chat some rubbish nowadays.

His latest on two Liverpool players is simply ridiculous, actually.

Danny Murphy genuinely thinks Klopp should be more like Hodgson

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Debate show last night, Murphy claimed that incoming midfielder Naby Keita lacks creativity in comparison to Javier Mascherano, while suggesting Roberto Firmino, who has 16 goals this season so far, isn’t capable of scoring 20 goals in a campaign.

“I’m not sure (on Keita), from what I’ve seen,” he said, cited in the Echo.

“Subconsciously you can look like you’ve downed tools when you’re protecting yourself a little bit, I wouldn’t judge him on that. I don’t know him well enough to say that. What I would say is he’s obviously very athletic, got a lot of qualities – a bit like Jordan Henderson has. Professional, good athlete, does his job really, really well.

“But he isn’t creative enough if you want to challenge for the title and the Champions League. Someone like Gerrard, Souness, Alonso, Mascherano – these type of players.

“I think him and Henderson are fine, good Premier League players who will do a job in terms of what you want a central midfielder to do. But to go to the next level, to compete with Manchester City, Manchester United, and Chelsea, you need someone in the middle of the pitch who can open teams up, dictate the tempo and play.”

Keita is nothing like Henderson. He dribbles with the ball, breaks the lines with passes and is diminutive in stature.

A short YouTube lesson would have taught Murphy this, but he’s clearly gambled an opinion on the player having never watched him.

But to claim we haven’t got a goalscorer when Mo Salah is on 22 for the season and Firmino 16, is even more ridiculous.

“Firmino has progressed and he’s doing well, but is he a 20-goal-a-season player? We’ll have to wait and see,” he continued.

“To win the Premier League, in however many years recently, each team has had a striker who scores 20 goals plus. Liverpool don’t have one.”

Wow.

We can only imagine Jurgen Klopp’s reaction if he heard these comments.

They’re just clueless.
