Guardiola pays exceptional Liverpool compliment

Jurgen Klopp has beaten Pep Guardiola more times than any other manager in the world.

Today, the German orchestrated a 4-3 win against a side that included the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane.

Manchester City are an incredible team and are still going to waltz to the title, but today, Klopp’s men were the far better side and the score actually flattered our opponents.

Guardiola, who before today had seen City win 20 and draw two of their 22 matches, accepted that Liverpool were the better side.

“Congratulations Liverpool for the victory,” Guardiola told Sky Sports.

“In the second half we started much better [than in the first], the game was in our hands, we had one or two chances on the counter-attack and the finishing was not good.

“And after 10, 15 minutes the 1-1 to 4-1—in football you can concede one goal, but you have to be stable and in that moment we were not solid enough.

“After the second goal they scored the third and fourth and after that it’s always a complicated recovery.”

Today’s victory was perhaps our most satisfying of the season. Our goals were exceptional, and we managed to hold on at the end despite making it unnecessarily difficult for ourselves.

What’s clear is that we need an elite goalkeeper and for Virgil van Dijk to come in and take charge of the back four.

When that happens, we can challenge for any silverware we please.
