Simon Mignolet is considering his future and may even ask for an exit before the end of this month.
That’s according to Paul Joyce in the Times, who published the Belgian’s thoughts on the matter, too.
“I have to stay calm,” the goalkeeper said. “At the same time I have to think about my future. I am 30 years old and the World Cup is coming.”
Versus Manchester City on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp opted for Loris Karius instead of regular Premier League stopper Mignolet, and despite the German’s mistake, indicated that he’ll now get a run in the team, dependant on performance.
Liverpool are 3/10 with Guts Sports to beat Swansea on Monday, where it is most likely we we will see Mignolet on the bench again.
Obviously we’ll get behind Karius while he’s getting an opportunity, but have seen nothing in his 18 months at the club to suggests he’s a viable long-term option.
In the summer, we really hope Liverpool spend whatever it takes to fix this problem position.
Jan Oblak would be the dream.
