Juventus CEO speaks openly on Emre Can & promises contract fight with Liverpool

Despite Liverpool continuing talks with Emre Can this month, as per Sky Sports, Juventus are not going to give up without a battle.

The Italians have now reached the point where they’re openly admitting their chase for the German international, with CEO Giuseppe Marotta promising a large contract will be offered.

Can’s current deal expires this summer, of course, meaning any non-domestic club is currently allowed to freely approach him with a view to a Bosman transfer.

“Emre Can is a player whose contract is running down,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia on Wednesday, cited by the Star.

“So it allows us to approach him for negotiations and that is the course we have taken.

“I can’t say if he could sign a new contract with Liverpool, but I can say we will try all we can to get the player.

“Obviously, we have to respect what the player wants.”

No player was used more over the festive period than Can, who also put in a barnstorming performance against Manchester City on Sunday, characterised by power and dynamism.

With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ever-improving and Naby Keita arriving in the summer, a midfield trio of Can, Keita and Ox excites us enormously ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

Losing both Coutinho and the 24-year-old though would be a travesty, considering how highly Jurgen Klopp rates both.
