LFC linked with £35m ‘No.6’ who could compliment Keita & Ox

Liverpool are today being credited with an interest in a midfielder who we definitely considered in the summer as well…

The Mirror claim Jean-Michael Seri is being targeted by four clubs: Manchester United, ourselves, City and Chelsea.

Seri currently plays for Nice but with elite European clubs circling, it won’t be too long before his £35m asking price is met.

Both Manchester clubs are currently frontrunners for his signature, with Barcelona known to be keen in 2017, but he’s a player that certainly interests Liverpool.

He sits at the base of midfield and controls tempo by picking up the ball and releasing it quickly. Seri has the vision to pass through lines but can also dribble, making him a slightly better option offensively than Jordan Henderson, although he doesn’t feature the Englishman’s strength or ability to cover many miles each game.

If Emre Can leaves, we’ll definitely need a new deep-lying midfielder and Seri’s an interesting option. His passing and ability to run matches would benefit the drive of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the brilliance of Naby Keita, who’s arriving in the summer.

A Seri/Keita/Ox trio centrally seems an attractive base, actually, although we’d prefer to tie Can down and let him develop.

What’s certain is if we don’t buy Seri, an elite defensive midfielder is key come the end of this season.
