Guillem Balague reveals future plans of £89m Liverpool target

Guillem Balague has lodged a dent in Liverpool’s reported interest in Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

The Spanish football expert admits the Slovenian remains intent on staying put in Spain amid speculation touting him as one of Jurgen Klopp’s primary targets.

Recent talk of Simon Mignolet departing in the summer has sparked heightened rumours surrounding possible long-term replacements for the Belgian.

Oblak may boast a place high in the list, but the chances of luring him to Anfield appear increasingly slim.

Balague told Sky Sports: “He is trying to renew his contract with Atletico.”

“PSG have shown interest but I have heard nothing from Liverpool.”

Oblak’s £89million release clause serves as another off-putting factor, although the £75million signing of Virgil van Dijk serves as proof Liverpool are willing to spend big on priority positions.

The goalkeeping department remains very much in need of addressing, with neither one of Mignolet or Loris Karius having shown enough to suggest they are capable of taking the club forward.

Karius was recently labelled as Liverpool’s first choice by Klopp, having offered nothing in the way of encouragement since his arrival in summer 2016.

Roma’s Allison has emerged as another likely option and one the Reds are expected to make an approach for.

Developments over the past few weeks having been glaringly indictive of a summer shake-up, perhaps starting with the sale of Mignolet.
