Liverpool aim to spend ‘large part’ of Coutinho fee on Spanish starlet

Real Madrid’s stuttering La Liga season continues to fuel rumours of a mass summer exodus taking place at the Bernabéu.

The fourth-placed Spanish giants are an incredible 19 points adrift of league leaders Barcelona and have won just two out of their six games in all competitions since December’s Club World Cup Final win over Gremio.

Manager Zinedine Zidane has consequently come under pressure, whilst reports continue to point towards a squad rebuild at the end of the season.

Despite his glowing reputation in Madrid, Marco Asensio is one of those to be linked with a big-money departure.

Liverpool are one of the interested clubs and are keen to reinvest a large chunk of Philippe Coutinho’s £142million transfer fee into the signing of Asensio, according to the notoriously unreliable Spanish outlet Don Balon.

Asensio’s popularity as one of Madrid’s prized assets makes it impossible to see him leaving so early in what promises to be a long and successful career.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have also been tipped to launch a move for Gareth Bale and are reportedly prepared to pay over €100million for the Welshman’s services.

All transfers rumours circle back to an obsession with how Jurgen Klopp will spend the money generated by Coutinho’s move to Barcelona, and the seemingly irrational prospect of Liverpool not flexing their spending power.

Last week’s devastating performance against Manchester City served as proof this squad is equipped to secure a top four spot this season without its little magician.

Granted, another signing would be beneficial in bolstering the squad’s strength in depth, but if Klopp is happy with his options then fans have good reason to be, too.
