LFC target left out last night by coach, as speculation rises…

The latest on Liverpool’s interest in Thomas Lemar is that it very much still exists, but not while Monaco are asking so much money – anywhere between £70m and £90m – for the player.

This is according to James Pearce in the Echo.

At EOTK, we understand that Lemar is also having doubts about whether making such a high-profile move mid-season could damage his World Cup chances – although Monaco are very much willing to cash in.

Last night, manager Leonardo Jardim dropped the 22-year-old from his squad entirely for the French Cup game against Lyom, which obviously increased speculation that a transfer could be imminent.

However, the Echo suggest Jardim was just rotating and giving him a rest, although Liverpool made the same noises about Coutinho when he didn’t play before his eventual move to Barcelona.

Fans have become increasingly excited about Lemar, ever since we lodged bids for him in the summer, but in truth, he’s enduring a poor season. Two goals and four assists, in Ligue 1, is nothing to write home about.

He’s nowhere near the level yet to be considered a Coutinho replacement, but if Jurgen Klopp believes he has the talent, we’ll be all for it.

In our opinion, not buying one more creative attacker this January would be foolish beyond belief.
