“I’m really pleased and proud of Curtis this season, for his effort and commitment to the team cause and he has added big numbers to his game. We will probably see Curtis more with the U23s now, and he has earned that,” Gerrard told Liverpoolfc.com.
“In terms of the day, for him it’s very special. Let’s hope he goes from strength to strength now and he sees this as the beginning.”
Jones has dazzled since earning an advanced transition from the U16s to the U18s last season, where he has since thrived as Gerrard’s talisman.
Besides impressing with his quick feet and grace on the ball, Jones has also showcased his scoring prowess with 15 goals so far this season.
His superb form recently warranted him a maiden call-up to Neil Critchley’s U23s, which will undoubtedly lead to more regular involvement following the mass loan exodus of youth prospects searching for first team football.
Of Liverpool’s widely-credited youth system, Jones has surfaced as a leading contender to reap the benefits of Jurgen Klopp’s desire to introduce the club’s starlets to the senior setup.
