Klopp hits back at Carra’s Van Dijk ‘overweight’ comments with funny jibe

Jurgen Klopp was bullish in his response to Jamie Carragher’s Virgil van Dijk analysis today…

Our former central defender claimed our £75m signing, the man expected to ‘fix’ Liverpool’s backline, is actually overweight right now.

‘I think it will prove to be a great signing,’ Carragher told Sky Sports, cited in the Metro. ‘But he hasn’t hit the ground running.

‘I think he needs to get fit and lose a bit of weight. He actually looks too big.’

But in his press-conference, Klopp suggested those in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones!

There really is nothing to worry about with van Dijk. He’s hardly played this season, isn’t fully fit, and lacks any cohesion with his new team-mates in a key position.

After the summer, we’ll really see the best of the defender, especially as he’ll get a full pre-season with Holland not qualified for the World Cup.

Long-term, van Dijk could well become Liverpool’s skipper and an automatic starter. After all, he’s the most expensive centre-back of all time!
