Melissa Reddy outlines LFC’s four-pronged summer transfer plans

Liverpool’s relatively barren January transfer wise will be made up for in the summer, suggests respected Goal correspondent Melissa Reddy.

We bought Virgil van Dijk for £75m, which ensued a wave of optimism around the club, but many fans ended up disappointed with our recruitment after offloading Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge without trying to secure replacements.

Liverpool’s two losses this month didn’t help either, with the performances against Swansea and West Brom proving to many that the squad is too weak to navigate that rest of the season successfully.

“There are designs on recruiting a top-class goalkeeper, with Roma’s Alisson heading a list of options, while they have surveyed multiple options in midfield and have also circled candidates to enhance central defence and the attack,” Reddy claimed last night.

The issue for us is that with Liverpool it’s always, ‘the next window’

We were told roughly a year ago by the club’s mouthpieces that Jurgen Klopp would have the ‘biggest ever transfer budget’ at his disposal in summer 2017. On deadline day, we were told a £200m spending spree would occur.

None of this happened. We’re still waiting for a goalkeeper and Coutinho has departed. Perhaps we’ll get a stopper in 2018, and Naby Keita to boot – but Real Madrid will beeline for Mo Salah…

By playing the waiting game, our best players, who haven’t got years and years to wait, are becoming impatient with our progress and lack of silverware.

See Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Coutinho to name but a few.
