Sadio Mane makes huge claim about Liverpool’s potential

Sadio Mane insists Liverpool at their best have the ability to beat any team in the world.

The forward’s claims resonate among not only most Reds supporters but also a number of opposition fans, making the club’s defensive frailties all the more frustrating.

Recent defeats to Swansea and West Brom in the Premier League and FA Cup, respectively, showcased extraordinarily contrasting performances to the 4-3 win over Manchester City.

Calling it a lack of consistency seems inaccurate given the 18-game unbeaten run the club had been on prior to its recent setbacks.

“Of course we want to win every game, but sometimes it is difficult to play against teams who just drop back and try to defend,” Mane told Sky Sports.

“Against big teams, it can be complicated, but like I have always said, we can beat any team in the league, even in the world. It will be a tough game, but it is possible to win.

“It is too early to talk about winning any titles, but our aim is to try and win every single game until the end of the season – why not?

After suffering shock consecutive defeats, Liverpool rediscovered their typically explosive form to cruise to a 3-0 win over Huddersfield on Tuesday night.

January served up a reminder of how quickly momentum can swing in England’s top flight, with optimism turning to dismay and dismay subsequently turning to fresh hope in the space of four games.

Sunday’s clash with Tottenham gives Jurgen Klopp’s men an invaluable opportunity to consolidate their position in third place and put some distance between their close top six rivals.

The likes of Mane and 26-goal Mohamed Salah promise to be key in taking advantage of the space Tottenham’s high defensive line often leaves in behind.
