Klopp: Lukaku not in Firmino’s league

Jurgen Klopp reckons Harry Kane is the best out and out forward in the business, but that Liverpool’s no.9 Roberto Firmino isn’t far behind.

Notably, the German has claimed Romelu Lukaku isn’t in the same league as the Tottenham striker and his favourite Brazilian!

Liverpool take on Spurs at Anfield this evening, in a crunch clash that could define which side has the best chance of overtaking Jose Mourinho’s United in the Premier League.

“Kane is one of the best players in the world, 100 per cent, if not the best pure striker in the world at the moment,” Klopp told the Daily Mail.

“Lukaku is a fantastic striker but Kane is top in this league with Roberto Firmino.

“In Germany, it’s (Robert) Lewandowski. I worked with him and he is a fantastic striker. It’s a close battle.”

Lukaku is a good goalscorer (especially against weak opposition) and has a terrific record aged 24 – having notched 164 in total during his club career.

But there’s no way we’d swap him for Firmino, who at 26, is beginning to prove why Klopp rates him so unbelievably highly.

Liverpool’s no.9 has 19 in all competitions this term, but his contribution can be measured by so many more aspects than just goals, unlike the Belgian.

Firmino presses, creates, tackles, intercepts and makes selfless runs – seemingly for fun.

Right now, we’d suggest he’s just as important to us as Mo Salah.
