Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp worryingly reckons runaway title leaders Manchester City will be stronger next season.
Pep Guardiola has spent almost half a billion in 18 months, but in the process has created a monstrously effective squad which suits his footballing demands perfectly.

Right now, despite yesterday’s draw with Burnley, they’re 13 points ahead of 2nd placed Manchester United and 19 ahead of us.
Klopp thinks that with Pep’s backing in the transfer market, their upward trend will continue, but has suggested Liverpool and City’s other rivals can breach the gap by earning victories late on in scrappy games.
“City are good – and unfortunately they can be even better next year. I have to say that. But we have to keep trying. In preparation for the Huddersfield game we watched their game against City,” he told the Star.
“Yes, City had 80 per cent possession but the goal they scored to win 2-1 was a freak goal from Raheem Sterling. They have had a lot of these late goals in different games.
“That’s good for them and there is no shadow of a doubt that they are where they deserve to be.
“But if you are going to go on a run like them you need that luck – and they have had that this year.
“No team in the top five has had a long run of wins like them. That is because City are really good.
“What the rest of us have to do is to also have good moments when we are not playing like a dream.”
The problem with Liverpool’s undeniable progression under Klopp is that it requires patience…
We make one or two big signings per season, but also lose players, while City beeline for the best available targets every window – and strengthen much more aggressively.
For Liverpool to be in a genuine title chase next term, we need a perfect summer window in which we secure a world-class goalkeeper, an elite playmaker and some squad bolstering to boot.
