Five positives from Liverpool 2-2 Tottenham – Why Reds should still be pleased…

The manner in which we conceded at the death made last night’s 2-2 draw with Spurs feel like a defeat.

But in reality, the visitors outplayed us in the second-half and the result was probably fair.

Furious Van Dijk labels cheating Kane and Lamela ‘divers’

Here’s five reasons we should be positive going into next weekend’s clash with Southampton!

The consistent brilliance of Mo Salah…

Another two goals for the genius Egyptian, his second of which was probably his best in Liverpool red. It’s a travesty that it wasn’t the winner actually. The great thing about Salah is his consistency. He delivers every game. While Harry Kane pads his stats with hat-tricks in easy matches, Salah contributes in virtually every game in every competition. We’d suggest his value is already at the £200m+ mark, not that we have any intention of selling.

Positive signs of a strong Van Dijk / Lovren partnership…

In the first-half, Van dijk was phenomenal. And we’re not exaggerating. As the game went on, Lovren himself became increasingly vital. Sadly, they were involved in both of Tottenham’s penalty incidents, but the signs are good. Lovren defends on the front foot, aggressively, which complements the Dutchman, who’s a much better reader of the game – and will provide a composed presence to the backline. At the moment, this is the duo we’d select going forward.

Jordan Henderson is fit and in form…

When the skipper was taken off on the hour mark, Liverpool lost control centrally. This was no coincidence. He was excellent against Huddersfield and backed that showing up at home to Spurs, suggesting he’s finding form again after a sloppy patch before Christmas. Henderson is horribly underrated by a small section of the fanbase, but more outings like last night will help that change.

Loris Karius’s best performance in red…

The young German saved a penalty and made three other top stops to deny possession-dominant Tottenham. It was, by some distance, Karius’s most impressive outing since signing in 2016. Those who are criticising him for Wanyama’s wonder-goal are wrong, in short.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is going to world-class…

It’s not an exaggeration to say that Trent might be the best teenage right-back in the world right now. Replacing the injured Joe Gomez, the local lad put in a barnstorming display down the flank. His deliveries were whipped and wicked – and his link-up play with Salah equally impressive. What a talent we have on our hands.
