LFC ‘concerned’ with Naby Keita after coach’s latest comments – Independent

Would Jurgen Klopp really be worrying about the form of a player who’s not yet part of our squad?

We’d suggest not, but the Independent reckon the recent performances of Rb Leipzig’s Naby Keita are causing the German sleepless nights.

Keita is officially joining Liverpool this summer, after we agreed a future deal back in 2017, but he’s not consistently showed the level he did last season since it was announced he was Merseyside bound.

Rb’s manager Ralph Hasenhuttl hasn’t pulled any punches.

“Naby is not as consistent this year as last year,” he told Bild, cited in the Independent. “It’s important that he brings his expectations back to normal levels.

“I’m not one who wants to motivate with fear. I don’t immediately get the whip out in the classic sense and I don’t kick the players non-stop.”

Suspensions have blighted the 22-year-old’s campaign, but we still think he’s been quite good, actually.

Starting predominantly in defensive midfield, he’s scored seven goals, registered two assists while contributing plenty off the ball, too.

His tenacity and ability to drive through midfield is still obvious, and in short, on current form, he’d still be our best centre-mid by some distance.

With Emre Can leaving though, it’s imperative we secure another player to complement the Guinean once he arrives.

Somebody with the ability to dictate a game from deep, like Lucas Torreira, would be great.
