LFC and Arsenal set £40m summer tussle over Englishman

Liverpool are again being linked with Stoke City keeper Jack Butland, this time in the Mirror.

The England international is rated at £40m, with the report suggesting both Jurgen Klopp and Arsene Wenger are keen and will fight for his signature in the summer.

Arsenal stopper Petr Cech is over the hill and the Gunners needs a new no.1, while Liverpool have needed an elite keeper for years, with Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius not up to scratch.

The German has until the end of the season to prove he’s capable of starting between Liverpool’s sticks long-term, but plans are already being drawn up to bring in somebody new.

At EOTK, we’d prefer Roma’s Alisson to Butland – especially if the latter will cost £40m.

Jan Oblak is the ideal target, but probably unrealistic, but Alisson is definitely attainable.

He starts for Brazil, is brilliant with the ball at his feet and has a €50m release-clause.

Butland is talented but we don’t actually think he’d be an enormous improvement on what we already have.
