Dejan Lovren has reassured Virgil van Dijk that he’ll be the recipient of more boos against Southampton today…

The Croat and the Dutchman both used to play at St. Mary’s and are likely to partner each other in defence in today’s afternoon kick-off.

Lovren always gets a hard time after pushing for a move in 2014, but it’s van Dijk’s first time back following his £75m January transfer.

A few months ago, van Dijk played for our opponents, but will don Liverpool’s no.4 today, and so can expect a torrid reception.

But not as torrid as Lovren’s!

Lovren told Sky Sports: “I’m still number one!

“Maybe Virgil is behind me? Let’s see what will happen. Let’s see between me and Virgil who will have the higher decimals!

There will be some strange feelings. The welcome doesn’t bother me – maybe they miss me or something like that? This is why they are doing it.

“I had a great time at Southampton and will always be thankful for that.

“I never had any feelings of hate towards the Southampton fans – they helped me and of course, they made some good business.”

We’d love the duo to help Liverpool with a clean-sheet today.

Since his arrival, van Dijk’s seen Liverpool concede plenty of goals, but his overall performance against Tottenham last time out was excellent.

Lovren complements his style as well, as he’s an aggressive front-foot defender, while van Dijk is composed and can pass the ball excellently.
