‘There is no doubt…’ LFC target will move to England says Ex-Red

Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol reckons Thomas Lemar will end up in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old Frenchman was heavily linked to Liverpool last summer, and we had an official bid rejected.

But despite selling Coutinho in January, we didn’t go back in for the AS Monaco star during the winter window.

And it was revealed by James Pearce in the Echo that Liverpool’s interest had ended, with Jurgen Klopp wanting more ambitious targets this summer.

But Nicol thinks a switch to England, even if it isn’t Merseyside, is inevitable.

“I think there is no doubt,” Nicol said, cited in the Star.

“This is a guy who will start for France in the World Cup, and to do that with their squad and you’ve got to have something special.”

We’re not sure Lemar will start for France in Russia, actually!

The problem is that Monaco’s asking price is astronomical for a player who enjoyed a very good 2016/17 season but hasn’t done much at all this term.

We reckon Christian Pulisic is a more likely target, although Borussia Dortmund will similarly demand a massive fee.
