Jordan Henderson has welcomed Liverpool’s right-back Nathaniel Clyne back into first-team training, and been impressed with his fellow Englishman’s level.

The defender hasn’t made a first-team appearance this term due to an ambiguous back injury, but returned to the Under-23s on Sunday against Stoke in a 4-0 win.

“He was back in the sessions in Marbella and I could see the lads looking at each other and thinking how sharp he is,” Liverpool’s captain said.

“He’s come back in fantastic shape and he’s a naturally fit person anyway.

“This is a massive boost for us because Clyney is international quality and will 100% make us even more competitive between now and the season finishing.”

According to U23 manager Neil Critchley, Clyne refused to come off at the weekend!

“He has not played for seven months and the plan was to see how long he would go for. He kept putting his thumb up and saying he was okay,” U23s boss Neil Critchley told Liverpoolfc.com.

“He obviously wanted to see out the 90 minutes, which was great for him. I thought he was a great example to our players in the way he managed himself during the game.”

We reckon we’ll see Clyne play against FC Porto next week.

That tie is basically a dead-rubber following the 5-0 win in the first-leg, so Jurgen Klopp is likely to ring the changes.

Alberto Moreno will come in at left-back, with Clyne on the other side.

If Clyne can stay fit and put in decent performances, he has a very outside chance of getting into England’s World Cup squad.

At the moment though, it’ll just be great to see him back on the pitch again.
