Jordan Henderson makes bullish Champions League claim

Jordan Henderson insists few teams will want to draw Liverpool in the next round of the Champions League given their current form.

The skipper has also rightly maintained that the Reds still have work to do in their last 16 second-leg with Porto at Anfield – regardless of their 5-0 aggregate lead heading into the contest.

Jurgen Klopp’s men produced an attacking masterclass in Portugal to ruthlessly quash the home crowd and lay out yet another statement for their European rivals to take note of.

“Let’s take nothing for granted because we have to finish the job in the second leg against Porto next week, but there are not many teams who would want to draw Liverpool at the minute,” Henderson told the Liverpool Echo.

“We’re confident that we’re capable of beating anyone if we play well.”

“I’ve been here at Liverpool for nearly seven years and I’ve had some good times, but there’s a lot more I want to achieve.”

“Year by year I feel I’ve improved as a player but you are judged on what you do as a team and I feel we belong among the top teams in the world.”

Liverpool’s glowing reputation in the Champions League this season marks the latest instalment in the club’s resurgence as one of Europe’s top teams.

Between Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, the Reds possess an attacking force capable of hurting any team in the competition.

Porto were the unlucky victims of their firepower on Valentine’s Day and will travel to Merseyside with a squad depleted by injuries to key players.

This could pave the way for Klopp to give experiment with changes to his team ahead of the trip to face Manchester United at Old Trafford the following Saturday.
