Klopp plans swoop for surprise €40million Coutinho replacement – reports

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly planning on a surprise move to re-sign former Liverpool star Suso in a bid to find his replacement for Philippe Coutinho.

The Spaniard is currently plying his trade with AC Milan in Italy, where he has prospered since sealing a switch from the Reds in 2015.

His progression in recent seasons has inevitably warranted interest across Europe, with Suso’s fine form having even earned him a first senior cap for the Spanish national team this season.

Flaunting a €40million release clause in his contract, the 24-year-old is now being targeted by Liverpool, according to Italian outlet CalcioMercato.

Suso mustered just 21 appearances during his three years with the Reds, 20 of which came in the 2012/2013 campaign.

The playmaker had surfaced as one of the brightest prospects to rise through the club’s youth ranks, teasing an attacking flair many believed would see him consolidate a starting spot in years to come.

Such expectations failed to materialise as Suso was shipped out to Spanish side Almeria on loan for the 2013/2014 season in desperate need of minutes.

His temporary exit arrived just months after Coutinho has arrived for a mere £8.5million from Inter Milan.

Five years down the line and Suso is now being touted as a potential alternative to the £142million Barcelona man thanks his lasting impression in Serie A.

At first glance, he fits the mould as the attacking midfielder with the vision to feed Liverpool’s winning runners and thrive in a central role that Klopp is seeking.

He isn’t alone on the list, however, with Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic boasting a place as a long-term target on Klopp’s summer wishlist.
