‘I have ears…’ LFC transfer target sarcastically discusses our interest on CL night

Liverpool have been credited with an interest in Houssem Aouar, Lyon’s impressive teenage midfielder.

The 19-year-old is a first-team regular, despite his young age, and has been mooted as a long-term Coutinho replacement – because he can play on the left or as a more central playmaker.

Aouar though was coy when asked about a potential Merseyside switch, claiming to be aware of the aware of the speculation, while refusing to expand.

He told France Football, translated by Goal.com: “I hear the rumours, like you… I have ears!

“I have eyes too, to see a few things left and right. The guy who says he doesn’t hear stuff or listen to anything, is not telling the truth. But there’s nothing you can do. All of that doesn’t bother me.

“I’m well protected with my family. It’s nice to hear, but I’m not getting carried away. My feet are firmly on the ground. I’ve only got a good half-season behind me, and I have everything to develop at Lyon.”

Sounds like a fairly grounded young lad, to be fair.

He’s quite a talented one as well, if reports are to go by. Aouar has four goals and three assists in Ligue 1, but has linked up with the superb Nabil Fekir especially well.

It’s that kind of immediate understanding with top players that will hold him well before a bigger move.

In reality, Liverpool need slightly more readymade players than Aouar this summer. The current squad is doing excellently, but it’s fully fit and in-form and they’ll be stages in 2018/19 when we need some elite midfielders complementing Jurgen Klopp’s roster.
