Henderson delivers strong statement of intent ahead of quarter-finals

Jordan Henderson insists Liverpool will be prepared to take on any team in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Reds await to find out their last eight opponents having booked their place with a 5-0 aggregate win over Porto, finishing the job with a 0-0 draw at Anfield on Tuesday.

Real Madrid are currently the only other team through to the next stage having beaten Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 at the Parc des Princes to seal a 5-2 victory across the two legs.

Speaking to Viasport Fotball, the skipper said: “We’ve just got to keep doing the things we’ve been doing, keep working hard and for whoever we get in the next round, be ready.”

“We feel as though if we are playing to the best of our ability then we can beat anyone, so it doesn’t matter who we get, we’ll be ready for them.”

With the form Liverpool are currently in from an attacking perspective, they are realistically capable of hurting any side left in the competition.

An onus on teams to flaunt their own attacking power could also afford the Reds the space to express themselves, as they have done against close rivals under Klopp in recent years.

Notable defensive improvement also offers the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah a more solid foundation on which to gloss over in front of goal.

A quarter-final matchup would have been deemed a great success prior to the tournament, but there is now a worthy expectation that the Reds can go even further beyond that.

There will be plenty of teams keen to avoid drawing Liverpool, without question.
