Firmino: Who I want in the Champions League

Roberto Firmino isn’t scared to face any potential opponents in the Champions League quarterfinals.

Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with FC Porto on Tuesday confirmed a 5-0 aggregate victory, with the Anfield leg basically void following the thumping we handed out in Portugal.

Firmino has been one of our best players in Europe this term and is excited about the rest of the competition.

The Brazilian would like to face an English side, because our record against our Premier League rivals is decent under Jurgen Klopp – but would also back himself and his team-mates against either Barcelona or Real Madrid.

“Yes, we’d like a draw against an English club. Why not?” Firmino told the Telegraph.

“We have shown in the past few seasons we can beat all the English clubs. Our record is good against them.

“We feel we have played well against the top English clubs and shown we can beat them. But we are not afraid of anyone in the draw.

“We are not concerned who we get. We don’t mind. We are not afraid. I don’t think we have anything to fear from any side now.

“If you are in the draw (at this stage) then you can not be afraid of anyone. We feel we can beat any side on our day, and we don’t mind who we get. I think we are a team who will cause problems to others.

“Of course they are good teams. They are all good teams (left in the draw). But I don’t think it matters to us (who we get). We are a good team, we can play against the big Spanish teams and we feel we can be a match for them. You have to play against the big teams.”

Firmino’s right: Liverpool have no reason to fear anybody.

On our day, we can beat anybody, and the rest of Europe know that. Good teams will leave us space and look to keep the ball, too, which will hopefully aid potential counter-attacks.

Bring it on.
