Mo Salah: Why I’m desperate to score past De Gea

Mo Salah wants to complete his record of scoring against every side in the top six this season.

He’s notched against Spurs, City, Chelsea and Arsenal – but the Anfield tie with tomorrow’s opponents Manchester United finished 0-0 – largely thanks to David de Gea’s wonder-save.

Liverpool travel to Old Trafford for Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off knowing a victory will catapult us into second place outright, as we approach the business end of the season.

Salah was rested midweek against FC Porto and will again provide our biggest goal threat, having bagged an outrageous 32 in all competitions so far this season.

“I remember it [De Gea’s save]. I also missed an easy chance in that game, but he is great,” Salah told Jamie Carragher for Sky Sports.

“Before the game you have to prepare yourself for the game, and you see the weakness of the players or the goalkeeper, and you have to try many times to break that and to score and to do something different.

“But we know we play against Manchester [United] and De Gea. He is a great goalkeeper and this is the only team I did not score against in the top six this season, so I will try.

“I try to look for a goal in any game I play. I thought already about that and I’m very excited to play in that game because this is the only team in the top six I didn’t score against. Only Manchester [United]!”

De Gea has a habit of playing incredibly against us, which is why he’s rightly regarded as the best keeper on the planet.

Hopefully, our no.1 Loris Karius can maintain his good form as well though.

The German has been excellent since replacing Simon Mignolet between the sticks, but tomorrow will be his biggest test.
