Potential new Van Dijk CB partner more likely after positive transfer news

Stefan de Vrij is still available and hasn’t yet agreed to join Inter Milan, as opposed to previous reports emanating from Italy.

The Dutchman is therefore still available to sign for Liverpool, having already confirmed that he’s leaving Lazio in the summer.

Inter Milan have not wrapped up a deal and de Vrij is still attainable, with Manchester United also keeping tabs.

“I cannot confirm something like that [a deal],” sporting director Piero Ausilio told Mediaset, translated by the Star.

“I can only talk about Inter and our players.”

Virgil van Dijk has come in and done exceptionally since his £75m move, but there’s still doubts about which centre-back should be his long-term partner.

Joel Matip makes mistakes, and although Dejan Lovren has been better alongside our world-class defender, he made mistakes against United on Saturday that partly cost us the game.

De Vrij, who’s available on a Bosman, provides a very exciting option, especially considering he won’t cost a penny and at 26-years-old, is about to enter his prime.

Two Dutchman at the same age marshalling our backline is an exciting prospect, but it remains to be seen whether Jurgen Klopp will beeline for the Lazio man or stick with what he’s got.

Unlike many of the fans, he does rate Matip and Lovren highly, and may choose to stick with his current options.
