LFC star confident in Champions League progression, huge praise for Klopp

As we await Friday’s Champions League draw, all eyes will be on who we get in the quarter-finals but that seemingly won’t knock Sadio Mane’s confidence.

Having swept aside Porto in the last round with a 5-0 aggregate victory, we’re now back in the last eight of the competition for the first time in nine years.

In turn, confidence will be high within the group as we continue to battle for a top-four finish in the Premier League too, and Mane has delivered the perfect rallying cry to keep us focused on the prize on offer.

“We are all aware that if you want to become a champion you must beat champions. We’ve got the quality to beat every team in the world. And we’ll try exactly that,” he said, as quoted by ESPN.

“Why should Liverpool not be on top in 2018? We want to win the Champions League. I am convinced we can do it for the first time since 2005.”

The Senegal international has been crucial to our run in Europe so far, scoring six goals and providing an assist in six appearances.

As a result, we’ll hope that he can continue to fire us forward, while it’s also worth noting that we were the only side to keep two clean sheets in the last-16 round of fixtures.

Meanwhile, Mane also had great things to say about our boss, with Jurgen Klopp singled out for plenty of praise too in the same interview as he looks to mastermind our pursuit of success in Europe this season.

“Every player here loves Jurgen Klopp,” Mane added. “He’s always positive, passes on a lot of his power. He’s a very special coach. I think he’s one of the best. Every footballer would love to train under him.”

The Champions League quarter-final draw takes place in Nyon on Friday, and is expected to get underway at 11am BST with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Juventus and Roma all involved too.
