Jordan Henderson in awe of what Liverpool fans did at Old Trafford

Jordan Henderson has paid tribute to Liverpool’s fans for their remarkable support during last weekend’s defeat to Manchester United.

The travelling Kop were in formidable form at Old Trafford, drowning out the hosts’ atmosphere on numerous occasions and continuing their songs beyond the final whistle.

A disappointing result proved no deterrent to a typically superb effort from the away end, to which Liverpool’s captain has applauded.

Writing in matchday programme ‘This is Anfield’, the skipper said: “When you’ve been at the club as long as I have now, it’s hard to be surprised by the passion of the Liverpool supporters because they display it on so many occasions,” as cited by Liverpoolfc.com.

“But even by their very high standards the ‘performance’ – for want of a better word – from the away end at Old Trafford last Saturday was phenomenal.”

“I’m not sure I can remember experiencing anything like that before, particularly when a team loses against such a big rival.”

A slow start cost Liverpool on the day, with Marcus Rashford twice emphatically capitalising on Liverpool’s failure to deal with a long ball.

The determined response after the interval finally began to match the energy of those making every pass and taking every shot from the stands.

Klopp’s men were deemed unlucky not to find an equaliser having paved a way back into the game via Eric Bailly’s own-goal following some great work from Sadio Mane.

An unrewarding outcome aside, it was by no means an afternoon to be disheartened by in Liverpool’s fight to secure Champions League qualification.

Win, lose or draw – there’s nothing to diffuse this club’s fanbase.
