Solanke: ‘Crazy’ Liverpool players make life ‘frustrating’

Liverpool’s crazily impressive attackers have meant Dominic Solanke has had to content himself with a spot on the bench this season.

The England international has played just 346 minutes of Premier League football, and only a further 14 in the Champions League – predominantly because of Roberto Firmino ahead of him in the pecking order.

Firmino, along with Sadio Mane and Mo Salah, mean that the best the likes of Solanke and Danny Ings can hope for is a successful cameo off the bench.

Solanke, who’s yet to score for Liverpool since transferring from Chelsea last summer, has admitted this is frustrating, but understandable considering the calibre of the players ahead of him.

“Being at Liverpool there’s a lot of competition and there are going to be tough times. But coming to England is always another time to express yourself,” he said, reported in Goal.

“There are crazy players at Liverpool, especially in my position, and I’ve definitely learnt a lot.

“You always have to take the positives and we are doing so well at the moment. The front players have been phenomenal, it’s a good lesson.

“Mo Salah is on fire, I’m so happy for him, and he is unstoppable and it’s helping us a lot.

“It’s always frustrating when you’re not playing, but I’m enjoying it at Liverpool. You can say it’s different to Chelsea.”

The 20-year-old has been lethal for England’s youth sides and is clearly very talented; we’ve just yet to see it in Liverpool red.

He’s still very young though and the fact Jurgen Klopp wants to go into next season without buying new backup for Bobby, speaks volumes.

It would be great if Solanke could break his duck before the end of the campaign.

An injury time winner against Manchester City in the upcoming quarterfinal would be a nice way to do it!
