World class defender claims every Champions League team would fear Liverpool

Mats Hummels admits no remaining Champions League team would want to play Liverpool in their current form.

The Bayern Munich defender has reverted to his experience working with Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund in praising his former manager’s preparation behind the scenes.

Liverpool were drawn against Manchester City for their quarter-final clash, with many Reds deeming this attacking force capable of troubling any one of Europe’s elite.

Hummels told the Daily Mail: “I know how strong Klopp’s teams are.‘I know how good his teams are when they get to this level. Sometimes it is a bit more difficult against the teams in the lower half of the schedule.”

“But his teams always perform at the highest when they face the best teams. That’s for certain. I don’t think there was a team remaining who wanted to face Liverpool. They work so hard, they play so intense and aggressively with the quality of players they have — especially up front.”

Klopp has visibly stamped his own enthralling attacking approach on Liverpool since arriving on Merseyside, maintaining his reputation he built at Dortmund as one of world football’s most exciting and imaginative brains.

The interchanging he has implemented across his front line and the work ethic he persists to demand has been monumental in the Reds ironing out the issues against bottom half clubs that Hummels alludes to.

With Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane all simultaneously boasting top form, oppositions side are often struggling to fulfil the tactical discipline required to stop Liverpool.

The only option against City is to go toe-to-toe with the attacking ingenuity of Pep Guardiola’s men, just as they did so emphatically in February’s 4-3 win at Anfield.
