Liverpool keeping tabs on €25m Spanish ‘modern winger’ – report

The all-too familiar phrase ‘closely monitoring’ has returned with a vengeance to Liverpool’s transfer transfer rumour mill, intent on teasing another unlikely target.

Valencia’s Ferran Torres is the latest to be deemed under the watchful eye of Anfield officials courtesy of his rise to prominence in La Liga.

Increased involvement at Valencia has seen Torres assert himself as a preferred option to both Manchester United loanee Andreas Periera and versatile full-back Toni Lato.

At first glance, his starting position as a winger and tendency to drift makes links to Liverpool understandable given the attacking interchanging Jurgen Klopp’s system thrives on.

Writing in his Sky Sports column, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague said: “He is 19 years old and did very well against France in the international break for Spain Under-19s even though they did not make the European Championships.”

“He was the best player for Spain at Under-19 level and the only one playing regularly in the top division.”

“He has played six out of the last seven games, 11 in total this season, and quite clearly Valencia want to keep him. They renewed his contract until 2020 and put in a buyout clause of 25m euros, but Liverpool and others are keeping a close eye on him.”

“He is a dribbler, fast on the wing, can play on either wing, and he has got ability and intelligence. He can also play inside if needed, so he is a modern winger.”

The traits Balague points out somewhat fit the criteria as the kind Klopp will strive to replace Philippe Coutinho with in regards to his ability to contribute centrally.

Liverpool’s sparkling form since the Brazilian’s move to Barcelona won’t deter the German from bolstering his attacking resources  further with added creativity in a deeper position.

Coutinho was in the process of transitioning into a more central role prior to move, hinting at Klopp’s aim of adding no.10 invention into his midfield trio.

Needless it be said Torres joins a long-list of apparent Liverpool targets, with cooled interest in Monaco’s Thomas Lemar still standing a chance of being reignited.
