Emre Can being told to ‘say yes’ to Juventus transfer – report

Emre Can is reportedly being urged to pounce on the opportunity to move to Juventus when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The German looks likely to depart on a free transfer in the summer having shown few signs of progressing in talks over a new deal at Liverpool.

Ongoing negotiations stretch back to 2016 having stalled on factors seemingly ranging from wage disputes to a disagreement over Can’s desired release clause.

The midfielder appears to remain intent on a move to Italy despite the progression reflected by Liverpool’s strong chances of another top four finish in the Premier League and involvement in a Champions League semi-final clash with Roma.

Can is being advised by his camp to ‘say yes’ to a move to Turin, according to Italian outlet TuttoSport. How exactly they have arrived at this belief unsurprisingly remains to be seen.

Can has been sidelined with a back injury since being substituted early on in last month’s 5-0 win over Watford, foregrounding suggestions he could have played his last game for the club.

Whilst his absence is yet to come at any substantial cost, it has previewed the likely need for midfield reinforcements this summer if he does depart.

It continues to be difficult to comprehend Can’s apparent desire to leave amid a period of real encouragement for the club and ahead of the Reds’ aim to mount a serious title challenge in 2018/2019.

The loss of the 23-year-old’s box-to-box assets may be partially compensated for by the arrival of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig, but there remains room for Klopp to add a more defensively-inclined protector for his back four.

A potentially defining transfer window in Klopp’s Anfield tenure awaits.
