Mo Salah learns official PFA Player of the Year opponents as shortlist is revealed

Mohamed Salah has learned who he will be up against for the PFA Player of the Year award after the release of the official shortlist.

The Egyptian has eased into the running for the accolade this season thanks to his 29 goals for Liverpool in the Premier League so far.

He also boasts nine assists to reflect his creative influence in Jurgen Klopp’s interchanging attacking setup and serve further evidence of his remarkable impression on his return to English football.

Praise for Salah stems from not only the doubts stretching back from his tough spell at Chelsea, but also his unimaginable figures from a right-wing position in comparison to orthodox centre-forwards across the league.

Salah took a mighty leap towards the Golden Boot recently as he bagged four in Liverpool’s 5-0 win over Watford at Anfield, marking his first hat-trick for the club.

The full shortlist was announced by Sky Sports:

Kevin De Bruyne undoubtedly poses as Salah’s fiercest rival for the award having been influential in leading Manchester City towards the Premier League title.

The Belgian has contributed 15 assists in Pep Guardiola’s star-studded attack and combined with Salah in returning to haunt Chelsea for missing out on the pair at their best.

City teammates Leroy Sane, who has supplied 12 assists, and David Silva, on 11 assists, also make the cut as prominent members of a playmaking cohort that few teams have managed to contain.

David De Gea’s spot on the list also reflects his envied value to Jose Mourinho’s side in both earning and rescuing crucial points for the league’s likely runners-up.

Tottenham’s Harry Kane completes the line up having enjoyed another prolific term with 25 league goals, although notably not quite as prolific as Salah.
