Club president name-drops Liverpool as perfect for his star player

Monaco really, really want Liverpool to buy Thomas Lemar, don’t they?

But they should have accepted one of our hefty offers last summer, instead of holding out for more money and watching the Frenchman endure a poor season.

Liverpool’s interest in Lemar has dwindled and we’re actually focussing our attention elsewhere, but this hasn’t stopped Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev throwing our name into the hat once again.

When asked who he’d prefer to sell Lemar to out of Arsenal and ourselves, the Russian unequivocally told Telefoot [via Metro]: ‘LIVERPOOL‘.

The issue is, Jurgen Klopp is no longer interested in splashing massive cash on a player who’s registered a measly two goals and seven assists in Ligue 1 this term.

It’s something which has undeniably got the player himself down:

“I’m not going to hide it, I was a little disappointed. I try not to think about it,” Lemar said last month after failing to secure a January move. “I’ve kept working so that these clubs come back during the next transfer window.”

During the winter, Liverpool decided not to replace Coutinho, despite being armed with £142m, much to everyone’s surprise.

And we’ve actually improved as a side since his departure; remarkable considering he was enjoying a terrific season in terms of goals and assists.

The likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner have massively stepped up in his absence, but we still need another creative midfielder come the summer.
