Andrew Robertson gets rave review from Liverpool legend

Kenny Dalglish believes it need only a look at the fan reaction to recognise Andrew Robertson’s soaring popularity at Liverpool.

The left-back has enjoyed a remarkable rise to prominence over the second half of the season having endured a frustrating spell on the sidelines following his summer arrival from Hull.

Alberto Moreno’s rejuvenated form during the opening stages of the campaign resigned the Scotland international to a role as understudy, until he was granted his chance to shine when the Spaniard picked up an ankle injury.

Robertson has since proven difficult to dislodge from the starting left-back role, growing to become a Kop favourite thanks to his vigour and production at both ends of the pitch.

Dalglish told the Scottish FA.”Andy has been fantastic ever since he came in. I’m sure he was Man of the Match on his debut. Everyone in Scotland should be very, very proud of him.”

“You only need to come to a game to sense the respect the punters have for him. They really enjoy watching Andy and he has his own chant already, which I know means a lot to him.”

“Andy’s a quality player. He has pace, his final ball is excellent and he plays with his heart on his sleeve. It gives me a lot of satisfaction to see him flying the flag for Scotland.”

Robertson has played a starring role in helping to improve Liverpool’s widely-scrutinised defence, adding solidity alongside £75million signing Virgil van Dijk.

His execution in the final third has also seen him emerge as a valuable outlet alongside Jurgen Klopp’s deadly front three.

The 24-year-old was particularly outstanding in the club’s superb Champions League run, flourishing in both legs of the recent quarter-final clash with Manchester City.

A long-term problem at full-back looks to have been solved.
