Klopp gives key injury update on Adam Lallana and Emre Can

Jurgen Klopp has been unable to deliver the encouraging news Reds were hoping for regarding the fitness of Adam Lallana and Emre Can.

Fitness news on the pair had been highly-anticipated amid Liverpool’s current injury crisis ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second-leg clash with Roma.

Can has been out of action with a back injury since being substituted in the first half of Liverpool’s 5-0 win over Watford midway through March.

Meanwhile, Lallana has been sidelined since picking up a hamstring problem during the second half of the Reds’ win over Crystal Palace later that month.

Both look set to remain unavailable for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Stoke City, as well as for next week’s trip to the Stadio Olimpico.

“Adam is here doing his fitness work. He’s not injured anymore but he’s not fit yet. We hope still that one or two games might be possible for him. We will see,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com.

“There is no chance for the weekend, no chance for Wednesday and then it could be difficult [for Chelsea]. Maybe possible for Brighton for Adam. We have to see.”

“Emre is a little bit further away. His rehab is improving a lot. It is much better, but it is quite close to the end of the season. I haven’t closed any doors on both of them. There is still a possibility.”

Both represent key losses during a defining stage of the campaign, especially with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s season-ending injury depleting Klopp’s midfield options.

Stoke’s visit to Anfield could prove an insight into the extent of Liverpool’s injury problems, with the Reds expected to field a much-changed experimental side in view of Roma.

Lallana has endured a miserable term, failing to rediscover his form after returning from a three-month injury layoff during the first half of the season.

With Can’s return date still uncertain, there is a chance the German may have played his final game for the club before leaving for Juventus on a free transfer in the summer.

That being said, recent rumours have hinted at a potential change of heart from the 24-year-old regarding his future on Merseyside.
