LFC fans attacked with metal bar in Rome

A Liverpool fan has claimed he and a friend were attacked while walking back to their hotel last night.

Carl Johnson and Peter Saunders were walking back from the Drunken Ship Pub when they were assaulted by two men armed with a metal bar.

Carl told the Liverpool Echo: “We came out of the pub at around 10.30. Not many Liverpool fans were out so the two of us were on the way back to the hotel.

“We got a few hundred yards from the hotel which is on Violo Del Gallo and two scooters came out of nowhere. The two passengers on the back got off and attacked us, one had a small metal bar.

“We tried to fight back but the drivers got off. We ran off.”

This is obviously the last thing we wanted to hear ahead of the final tonight.

It comes one week after Roma’s Ultras savagely attacked Liverpool fan Sean Cox outside Anfield last night.

The Irish Red is still in hospital and the Liverpool Family are sending him luck and love in his recovery.

Tensions are obviously high because of the Cox incident, but in the main, Liverpool fans have been welcomed by our Italian counterparts this time.

Obviously, it’s a few thugs who are ruining the reputation of the rest of the Roma fans.

“We’re at the Trefi Fountain now, hundreds of Liverpool fans are having a sing song. All the locals today have been great going out of their way to speak to Reds,” Carl continued.

“So far today, it’s been all good from what I’ve seen.”

For us, we just hope Liverpool progress through to the final to face Real Madrid and all the fans get home safe.
