The Liverpool legend and current U18s boss looks likely to be named the next manager of Rangers, replacing the recently-sacked Graeme Murty.
It will mark the former Reds skipper’s first senior coaching role as he works towards an arguably destined future at the helm on Merseyside.
After weeks of speculation, Gerrard is now in advanced talks and could be appointed over the next day following a meeting with club officials on Thursday, according to Sky Sports.

Debate over Gerrard’s decision to take the job stems from the visible gulf in class and quality between Rangers and champions Celtic, and the daunting task of closing the gap on Brendan Rodgers’ side.
With that in mind, the Anfield great has reportedly been promised large investment in the fight to take the club back to the top of Scottish football.
It represents a potentially turbulent introduction to his senior managerial career, although one that could prove a defining learning curve.
Gerrard has flourished as U18s manager this season, leading his gifted group of players to third place in the Premier League U18 North.
A main positive from his imminent Rangers appointment is the prospect of Liverpool’s youth starlets following him to Scotland to gain regular first team football as part of their development.
Liverpool will now, however, be left with the challenge of finding a valid replacement, although the depth of the club’s youth coaching staff and the coaching ambitions of a number of club legends suggests they will endure few problems.
