LFC target banished from training after media comments

Max Meyer is leaving Schalke on a Bosman free transfer this summer.

The young German used to be an attacking midfielder but this season has become a deep-lying playmaker in the classic no.6 mould – doing very well in the process.

After alerting the media of his intention to depart, Schalke have told him he’s not welcome at training and isn’t available for selection either, claim the Mirror, who name Liverpool and Arsenal as potential suitors.

Here’s what the 22-year-old had to say:

“I simply did not want to stay in Schalke and work under Mr Heidel. That’s it. In the end, it just feels like I’m being bullied,” Meyer began.

“I did not want to come out and talk. I’ve only had enough of always reading something about myself, but neither Heidel nor Tonnies have talked to me.

“From the first day [Heidel told me] I could go; then he said that I would not play much anymore [and] I was not wanted anymore.

“I never cared for the money, otherwise I would have accepted the second improved bid,” Meyer said. “That’s why I think it’s a mess that Clemens Tonnies says it’s just about money.”

Meyer shouldn’t be a first-choice for Liverpool, but with Emre Can leaving on a Bosman, he’s an interesting option as a direct replacement, considering he won’t cost anything.

The German can pass a ball and has impressive technique, but we’re not sure if Jurgen Klopp has genuine interest.

Naby Keita is already arriving, but we’ll need at least one more midfielder purchased before the start of the 2018/19 campaign.
