ESPN pundit: ‘I think he might go to Liverpool’

ESPN pundit Craig Burley thinks Liverpool will sign Jack Butland this summer, but his colleague Shaka Hislop disagrees.

“I think Butland might go to Liverpool. There you go,” Burley said, cited in the Express, before West Ham’s former keeper countered:

“I think Alisson to Liverpool, that’s what I’m going for,” he replied said.

“I’ve put my bet elsewhere!”

Simon Mignolet has been on the bench since January and as a result, will surely leave the club this summer. BVBBuzz claim Borussia Dortmund are a potential destination for our long-serving, much-criticised Belgian, in fact.

If this pans out, Liverpool will need another keeper to either compete with or backup Loris Karius.

Stoke have been relegated so Butland will definitely be available, although we haven’t exactly been blown away with his form.

Alisson was everyone’s flavour of the month before he conceded seven against us in two Champions League matches!

But the Brazilian does have more calibre and by all accounts, is a very strong keeper. RMC Sport though report that Real Madrid want him, which would make acquiring Alisson very difficult.

In a dream world, Liverpool would break the bank for Jan Oblak, but we just can’t see the club paying the monstrous required fee.

What we think will happen is as follows: Mignolet will leave and a so far unpublicised keeper will be purchased to compete on a level playing-field for the spot between our sticks – a little like Andy Robertson was signed to fight with Alberto Moreno for the left-back role last summer.
