Winger explains desire to play for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool

Harry Wilson is intent on making the most of his first-team opportunities for Liverpool during the club’s pre-season preparations.

The winger recently returned to Merseyside after enjoying a superb loan spell with Hull City following his move in January.

His seven goals in 13 appearances played a key role in helping the Tigers avoid relegation after a string of damning results prior to the Welshman’s arrival.

Regular minutes during the summer now beckon for Wilson courtesy of numerous senior players being in line for extended breaks following the World Cup in Russia.

Wilson told the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce: “That could help me. The players who go to the World Cup will be given time off after the tournament and won’t be around in early July.”

“That could give me the chance to get in the team. Then it will be up to me to impress the manager and stay in it.”

“It’s great to see what Trent [Alexander-Arnold] has achieved this season. He’s a lad who has come along the same path as me at the Academy and hopefully that will be me playing for the first team next season.”

“I want to come back here after the summer, have a strong pre-season and show what I can do. I’ve got belief in my own ability.”

Wilson’s success in Yorkshire was recently recognised by his Championship PFA Player of the Month award for April.

The 21-year-old’s impression on the domestic stage coincided with a landmark international achievement in March when he scored a stunning debut goal for Wales.

A progressive second-half of the season marked the perfect transition from another dominant campaign with Liverpool’s U23s team, which saw him rewarded on Thursday night as the Academy Player of the Season.

Whilst Jurgen Klopp’s apparent search for attacking reinforcements may threaten as a hindrance to Wilson’s first-team prospects in 2018/2019, it also invites him to assert himself as a boost to the Reds’ squad depth.
